Biography

Jodi Miller is best known for her acrylic landscapes featuring big skies rendered with large brushes allowing for gestural movement bridging abstraction and figuration.

Jodi is a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force where she served for 20 years as an Aerospace Engineering Officer. She grew up on a family farm in northern Saskatchewan surrounded by big skies, fields, cows and big dreams.

Her childhood was spent building forts in the pastures, fixing fences, hauling grain and driving down gravel roads. Inspired by her grandfather, a WWII veteran and amputee who farmed with just one leg, Jodi dreamed of travelling the world and finding adventures away from her small town.

She joined the military with a sense of adventure to explore the world and serve her country. She trained hard, attended the Royal Military College in Kingston ON, played volleyball for the Canadian military team representing Canada at numerous world games and tournaments, worked in Search and Rescue and on government projects, visited, worked and lived across Canada and began her family while proudly serving her country. Jodi was also stationed abroad to study for her PhD in England and has supported missions around the globe.

All the while, she found herself drawn to the skies as a means of connecting to those she was missing and a way of finding peace. When it came time for a change, Jodi returned to the prairies to raise her young family under those same big skies that had left their imprint on her years before offering a space to heal and a sense of hope.

She continues to travel as a way of creating family memories from camping across Canada to adventures in Europe, each trip offers renewed inspiration both in viewing the clouds and skies all over the world to returning to the vastness of the prairies on the way home. The skies are Jodi’s muse, a place where she finds connection, inspiration and possibilities.

Jodi has been recognized internationally for her ability to represent identity through landscape. Her work has been exhibited throughout North America and can be found in collections as far reaching as Australia. She currently works from her studio in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada.
